This rare set of Arne Vodder chairs are executed in a highly figurative Rio rosewood with vivid grain patterns. It has a rich, deep chocolate color with reddish and purplish overtones and its beauty and desirability is perhaps unrivaled for cabinetmakers. Indeed it was so sought after by furniture makers in the past that since the 1970’s it has been a protected species and therefore can no longer be used for cabinetry.

These are elegant and well proportioned chairs with a simple construction. Two cross stretchers are all that’s needed to provide stability to the well crafted chairs. The simple backrests are adorned by a curved sloping detail at the tops of the rear legs. The 418b carvers have sensible horizontal arms which marry angular lines with curved edges and contribute to the chairs sculptural appearance.

Arne Vodder (1926–2009) was a renowned Danish designer celebrated for his elegant, functional mid-century modern furniture. A student of legendary designer Finn Juhl, Vodder brought a distinctive organic sensibility to his creations. His work, characterized by clean lines, natural materials, and subtle detailing, often utilized high-quality woods like teak and rosewood. Vodder is best known for his modular sideboards, desks, and chairs, which exude timeless simplicity and craftsmanship. His designs gained international acclaim and were widely exported, furnishing prestigious spaces like the White House.
